Answer the Following In Your Notebook to Prepare for Part 1 of Workshop 2. 

Questions: What is the Story About? Discuss the Internal / External Conflict exemplified by the characters Hemingway creates. 

What is the Hemingway's Purpose? Why is the Setting Important?

Research : Do a bit of research on the symbol of the White Elephant - 2-3 Sentences

This is the extended metaphor in the story. What is a White Elephant?

What is it's significance?

Prepare for Part 1 of Workshop 2 - I will put the class into Groups of 3-4 and You will tackle themes in " Hills"

Remember: There Will BE at least 5 themes for Every Short Story we Read in this Class.. However, Silence will be an extended THEME... a Theme that will Run Throughout the Short Story Unit.. As Scholars, We will analyze the theme of Silence in it's continued variations of Thematic nature.. through characters, conflict, consequence and inner voice.
