READ SCENES 6-9
1. Do
you remember the quotes I gave you in the beginning? Choose one of the
two quotes and apply it to any character in the play. Explain how your
interpretation of the quote applies to this particular
character/conflict/event in the play.
2. A closer look
at Darwinism and "survival of the fittest". Charles Darwin studied the
theory of evolution as a natural philosopher at Cambridge during the
19th century. The idea behind "survival of the fittest" is part of what
is called natural selection. However, as time went on and ideas
regarding social darwinism began to erupt and evolve many people discuss
the concept of "survival of the fittest" in simple terms ... Only the
strong (fit) survive.
Discuss the play as it can or
cannot be seen as somewhat Darwinian in nature. Please provide at least 2
concrete examples to support your ideas.
