"People live for love. They kill for love. They die for love. They have songs, poems, novels, sculptures, paintings, myths, legends. It's one of the most powerful brain systems on Earth for both great joy and great sorrow" Helen Fisher
"I couldn't go on believing her story and live with Stanley" (Stella, 1232). This quote is extremely one-sided and shows the kind of person that Stella is. It also represents the way she viewed her sister and brother-in-law. Stella was so judgmental and at the same time so jealous of their life. She yearned for a sense of love and family of her own that she did not know how to be happy for the two of them because she was so envious. All these emotions caused the rude comments and irrelevant suggestions that she had.
ReplyDeleteA “downward negative comparison” in the sociology world is called the Social comparison theory which argues that people make comparisons to other people in their own mind naturally or unconsciously without even realizing it. These comparisons can sometimes make people feel worse about themselves or better about themselves. This is a clear example of Blanch’s actions throughout the play because she is so genuinely unhappy with her own life and the things that have happened to her. Her sister may have what she once had or wanted but not exactly the way Blanch pictured it for herself, therefore it leaves her to criticize unjustly.
